Believe it or not, the other three were actual titles dreamed up by our imaginative students.
"Mayor McMonkey" (1992) was written and directed by Ryan Thompson and John Hoelle and ends in a dramatic shootout in the Campus Drive parking garage.
"Jakob: Swedish Sex Object Phenomenon," (1997) written by Sam Mestman, proves that if you wear a baby blue suit, a Burger King crown, carry a cane, and walk around to the music of the BeeGee's, you TOO you can be the envy of every Jack and Jane on the block.
"Oh My God! It's Raining Toothpicks," (1998) was directed by Matthew Solmos. Shot on 16mm film, this project depicts a girl who slowly duct tapes herself to a stop sign. What's the deeper meaning? We're calling on Matt to tell us!

Back When I Was A Cherub....

It's December!
And I don't know what it's like where YOU are, but here in Chicago it's cold and snowy (though some of us like it).
Quick update for the 2008 Theatre Arts Cherubs - the picture books have arrived! They look great, and will be the perfect way for you to remember your time here a few months ago. We're in the process of shipping those (Ruth is addressing the boxes as I type this), so expect you'll be receiving them soon.
Also, I wanted to share with everybody a couple quick spots for you to check out on YouTube. They're nationally broadcast commericals and each feature a former cherub! Coincidentally, both are Theatre cherubs from 2003 (BEST YEAR EVER, boo-yah!).
The first one is for Kay Jewelers, and the featured cherub is Ben Rappaport (he's the guy.)

The second is for US Cellular, and Reggie Gowland plays the oh-so-smitten, call-happy boyfriend.
...ok, so this one doesn't seem to be on YouTube. I saw it on TV the other day and talked to another cherub about it. When it gets posted, we'll make sure all the cherub alum can see it and support.

Former Cherub has movie released!
Hey everybody! Slow week here at NHSI as we continue to prepare for the sending out of applications in the next couple months.
I wanted to quickly give you some info about the release of a feature-length animated movie, produced, written, and directed by 1987(? Yeah? I'll have to double check on that year) media arts cherub - Marc Adler. Of course, we are always incredibly proud of everything our former students do, but we wanted to make special mention of Marc's movie - titled Delgo - because it's scheduled for a nationwide release on December 12th.

This project has some big-name talent, including Freddie Prinze Jr., Anne Bancroft, Val Kilmer, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. We whole-heartedly encourage all cherub alum to support the success of a fellow student!

We want to know where you are!
Ok folks, it's been requested by several people (and if you saw my facebook message you'll know what I'm about to request) that we compile a list of networks where cherubs can be found. This is the first step in coordinating cherub get-togethers, dinners, etc. Obviously this is a completely voluntary thing, so if you don't want to get involved, you shouldn't feel any pressure to.
What we need from you is: University attended AND/OR networks you belong to (cities, regions, or countries if we have cherubs abroad!) . All you need to do is leave a comment on this post with the info, or you can send it to nhsi@northwestern.edu where we can find it as well.
This list could serve a number of functions. For example, if, over the next few months, we note that a former Theatre Arts cherub is being featured in a show in Chicago, we can say, "Calling all Chicago cherubs! Let's see a show!" Or, let's say that a former Journalism cherub is having an article or essay published in a northeastern regional publication. We can let all the cherubs up there know to check it out. That's one of the purposes of setting up this alumni network!
So get those locations in, if you want to kept up to date!
PS - if you're involved in a noteworthy event (play, publishing, etc.), LET US KNOW! We just had a former film cherub tell us about the premiere of an independent movie he produced coming up in December that will be here in Chicago. We'll get you more info about the movie when he sends us the website.

New Poll Question!
In light of the recent discovery of Nose-flutes (found by unnamed NHSI office employees), an NHSI Nose-flute band has been formed. But we need your help in choosing a name! Our current repertoire includes these classic favorite songs:

Wanna be an FA??
Faculty Associate Applications
So. In response to those who want to know about our faculty associate positions (you know you want to be one), here is the the info we can give you now.
Applications will be due on Monday, March 2 (2009?? already??). So don't worry, you've got some time. We always love to have former cherubs apply, we think they make for the best FA's! Application availability will be posted here of course, but it probably won't be for another month or two. You'll be able to download those from the official website, conveniently listed at the top of this page, when they're ready.
It's important to note that FA's should ideally be in between their junior and senior years of college, but we have accepted younger ones in the past. So if you're in college and not going to graduate in 2009, you should apply!
On a completely unrelated note...
My fantasy football team emerged victorious this weekend, for only the second time this season. As the fantasy crowd cheered, the team dumped a fantastical jug of Gatorade on the fantastic coach. Fantastically.
Also, it's time for a new poll question! I have one in mind, but in spirit of a participatory Forum, if you have a suggestion, email it to nhsi@northwestern.edu . The most interesting question will be posted as a new poll (so make sure you give us answers to choose from as well) on Thursday morning!
